About the Speaker

Samuel R. Freeman is Steven F. Goldstone Term Professor of Philosophy and Law, University of Pennsylvania.

One of the country’s foremost scholars on the work of John Rawls, his many publications include Justice and the Social Contract: On Rawls and Rawlsian Justice (Oxford University Press, 2006); The Cambridge Companion to Rawls (as contributing editor, Cambridge University Press, 2002); and John Rawls: The Collected Papers (as editor, Harvard University Press, 1999). In addition, Professor Freeman is the editor of Lectures in Political Philosophy (Harvard University Press, 2007), the last book written by Rawls before his death.
