Judith Kelleher Schafer Summer Internship Grants

In the summer between junior and senior years, Political Economy majors may elect to participate in the Murphy Institute Judith Kelleher Schafer Summer Internship Grant Program. This endowed fund is named for Dr. Judith K. Schafer, who directed the Murphy Institute Summer Internship Program from 1987 through 2005, during her tenure as Associate Director.

The Murphy Institute offers a limited number of internship grants in an open competition for Political Economy majors only. The main criterion for selection is a well-conceived plan of employment in a field related to political economy or public policy. Reading Summer stipends are tailored to need, reflecting current levels of individual financial aid and proximity of the internship to the student’s home. In supporting the program, the Murphy Institute emphasizes personal initiative on the part of students in seeking internship opportunities. Majors interested in applying to the Schafer Summer Internship Grant Program are asked to first make inquiries with a prospective employer and then apply to the Murphy Institute for internship support.

The Schafer Summer Internship Grant Program is administered by Dr. John Howard, Associate Director of the Murphy Institute. Contact Dr. Howard via email
