Julia Markovits is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Cornell University. Professor Markovits's primary research interests include metaethics and normative ethics, and her recent research focuses on questions concerning the nature of moral reasons and about moral praiseworthiness and blameworthiness. She is the author of Moral Reason (Oxford UP, 2014), and her scholarly articles have appeared in top philosophy journals such as Philosophical Studies, Philosophy and Phenomenological Research, and Philosophical Review. Professor Markovits received her D.Phil from University of Oxford in 2006.

The Murphy Institute

Established in memory of Charles H. Murphy, Sr. (1870-1954), and inspired by the vision of Charles H. Murphy, Jr. (1920-2002), the Murphy Institute exists to help Tulane faculty and students understand economic, moral, and political problems we all face and think about. More important, it exists to help us understand how these problems have come to be so closely interconnected.
