About The Speaker

Jason Hanna is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Northern Illinois University and is one of the 2015-16 CEPA Faculty Fellows. Specializing in normative and applied ethics, his recent research has focused on examining deontological constraints on harming, and his current research project aims to provide a more-or-less unqualified defense of paternalistic intervention. Professor Hanna’s work has appeared in a number of prestigious academic journals, including Journal of Ethics, Social Theory and Practice, and Ethics. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2009.

The Murphy Institute

Established in memory of Charles H. Murphy, Sr. (1870-1954), and inspired by the vision of Charles H. Murphy, Jr. (1920-2002), The Murphy Institute exists to help Tulane faculty and students understand economic, moral, and political problems we all face and think about. More important, it exists to help us understand how these problems have come to be so closely interconnected.
