Center for Law & the Economy Fall Lecture: Jeffry Frieden

The Murphy Institute’s Center for Law and the Economy (CLE) will welcome Jeffry Frieden, Professor of International and Public Affairs and Political Science at Columbia University, as the featured speaker for the 2026 CLE Annual Lecture. 

Jeffry Frieden specializes in the politics of international economic relations and the forces shaping modern financial systems and globalization. He is the author of several acclaimed books, including Global Capitalism: Its Fall and Rise in the Twentieth Century and Its Stumbles in the Twenty-First, Currency Politics; The Political Economy of Exchange Rate Policy, and Lost Decades: The Making of America’s Debt Crisis and the Long Recovery. His expert commentary regularly appears in major scholarly and general-interest publications, and he was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2018. 

As a leading authority in international political economy, Professor Frieden bridges the gap between what numbers say and how public policy actually affects everyday workers, explaining why economic policies inevitably create winners and losers that spark political backlash.

The Center for Law and the Economy promotes interdisciplinary research and collaboration on important issues confronting policymakers and private markets in both developed and developing economies.  CLE was founded in 2019, building on nearly a decade of expanding collaboration between scholars in The Murphy Institute's Center for Public Policy Research and Tulane Law School.

Lectures are free and open to all members of the Tulane community as well as the general public.
