About the Speaker

Geoffrey Sayre-McCord is the Morehead-Cain Alumni Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has published three edited volumes: Essays on Moral Realism (Cornell University Press, 1988), Hume’s Moral Philosophy (Hackett, 2006), and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (with Jonathan Anomaly, Geoffrey Brennan, and Michael Munger. Oxford University Press, 2015). Focused primarily on metaethics, moral theory, and, more recently, the nature of normative concepts and the evolution of morality, his work has appeared in numerous highly regarded venues, such as, American Philosophical Quarterly, Ethics, and Philosophical Studies. Professor Sayre-McCord also serves as a Professorial Fellow in Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh.
