About the Speaker

Michael Munger is Professor of Political Science with secondary appointments in the of Economics and Public Policy at Duke University. He is also Director of the PPE Certificate Program at Duke.

Professor Munger’s primary research focus is on the functioning of markets, regulation, and government institutions. His publications include over 200 scholarly articles and seven books. He is the co-author of Choosing in Groups (with Kevin Munger; Cambridge UP 2015), the author of Analyzing Policy: Choices, Conflicts, and Practice (W.W. Norton and Co. 2000), and the co-editor of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics: An Anthology (Oxford UP 2015).

Much of Professor Munger’s recent work has been in philosophy, examining the concept of truly voluntary exchange, and his current project is a book entitled “Tomorrow 3.0: The Sharing Economy” (Cambridge UP).

Professor Munger has won three University-wide teaching awards and has received grants from numerous organizations, including the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Templeton Foundation. He has taught at Dartmouth College, University of Texas, and the University of North Carolina (where he was Director of the Master of Public Administration Program), and worked as a staff economist at the Federal Trade Commission during the Reagan Administration. Professor Munger received his Ph.D. in Economics from Washington University in 1984.
