Lucia Kovacikova

Lucia is a Ph.D. candidate in the Political Science Department. Her background is in the field of International Relations, with a specific focus on international and regional organizations. Lucia received her B.A. from the University of Calgary and her M.Sc. from the University of Amsterdam. She has worked for numerous internationally-focused organizations, including the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars in Washington, D.C. and the British Consulate-General in Calgary.

Lucia’s doctoral research is in the sub-field of paradiplomacy. Her dissertation is titled “Subnational Government Internationalization and the Global Economy” and is overseen by co-chairs Dr. Mark Vail (Wake Forest University) and Dr. Thomas Oatley (Tulane University).

Lucia has received several awards for her research, including the Haas Fund Fellowship and the Janet Box-Steffensmeier Scholarship, in addition to the Murphy Institute Fellowship for 2021-2022. Lucia has two publications under review with co-author Dr. Ruth Carlitz (University of Amsterdam).
