The Center for Public Policy Research's Health Policy Program showcases the strengths of The Murphy Institute by harnessing the expertise of the Health Policy Working Group, with the goal of producing interdisciplinary research that addresses critical healthcare policy issues. The working group has established a network of professionals from Tulane’s Uptown and Downtown campuses who collaborate on research projects and strengthen individual work by offering feedback from a diverse pool of disciplinary expertise.
Each semester, CPPR sponsors the Health Policy Seminar Series where participants and guest speakers present their latest research and receive feedback from the group members. The series is organized by Murphy Core Faculty members Mary Olson, Associate Professor Economics and Director of the Health Policy Program, and Kevin Callison, Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management in the Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
Mary Olson is an Associate Professor of Economics at Tulane and leader of the Health Policy Working Group. Professor Olson's teaching and research interests include health economics, the political economy of health policy, regulation, and the study of bureaucracy. She is an expert on Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation. Her current research interests include studying the regulatory and firm-specific determinants of drug safety.
Kevin Callison holds the Drs. W.C. Tsai and P.T. Kung Professorship in Health Systems Management with joint appointments in the Department of Economics and The Murphy Institute. Professor Callison's research primarily focuses on issues related to the fields of health economics and health policy evaluation, particularly evaluating interventions that aim to improve population health.
