More Information

The Murphy Institute's Core Faculty Member, Tulane University Economics Professor Doug Nelson, will join a panel discussion on tariffs and the global economy at University of New Orleans on Thursday, March 5 at 4 p.m.

Trump’s aggressive use of tariffs and trade restrictions has disrupted long-standing global economic norms and reshaped international trade relations. Framed as a strategy to protect domestic industries and rebalance trade, these policies have sparked intense debate among economists, policymakers, and global leaders.

What is the rationale behind this radical shift in U.S. economic policy? How do tariffs affect global supply chains, inflation, and economic growth? And what are the broader implications for multilateral trade institutions, alliances, and geopolitics?

Panelists:

  • Dr. W.J. Lane, Chair, Department of Accounting, Economics & Finance, University of New Orleans
  • Dr. D. Nelson, Tulane University Economics Department and Murphy Institute Core Faculty
  • Moderator Dr. Alla Rosca, President of WACNO

When: March 5, 2026 at 4:00 PM

Where: University of New Orleans (UNO), Kirschman Hall, Room 131

Join World Affairs Council of New Orleans (WACNO), University of New Orleans, and Tulane University for a timely discussion on how Trump-era tariffs continue to influence the global economy and what they signal for the future of international trade and global cooperation.
