Matt King

Biography

Matt King, Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is a 2020-2021 Visiting Research Professor and a Faculty Fellow at the Murphy Institute's Center for Ethics and Public Affairs. He received his doctorate from the University of Maryland-Collage Park in 2008 and served as a Fellow in Law and Philosophy at UCLA from 2012 to 2014.

Professor King's research explores topics in ethics, the philosophy of mind, the philosophy of action, and philosophy of law, with particular focus on the nature and role of responsibility. Professor King's publications appear in leading journals Philosophy Studies, Ethics, the Journal of Moral Philosophy, and the Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy. With Joshua May, he is co-editor of the volume Agency in Mental Disorder: Philosophical Dimensions, forthcoming from Oxford University Press. He is currently writing a monograph defending a general theory of responsibility.
