Pureum Lee

Pureum Li is a Center for Ethics Graduate Fellow at The Murphy Institute and a PhD candidate in the Department of History. She is interested in the history of modern French colonialism and the decolonization of the global South in the twentieth century.  Her dissertation titled, Between the World and the Islands: Internationalism and Popular Politics in the Decolonization of the French Caribbean, is written under the direction of Prof.  Kathryn Edwards. Her research explores decolonization not only as a political process, but as an ethical struggle. Lee entered the PhD program in 2021 after completing her master’s degree in history from Ewha Womans University. 

The Center for Ethics Graduate Fellowships provides support to outstanding Tulane doctoral students who have excelled in their fields of specialization, have demonstrated an interest in ethical questions that cut across disciplinary boundaries, and are likely to make significant contributions to teaching and scholarship in their respective fields.
