About the Speaker

Charles Mills is Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at The Graduate Center, City University of New York. Professor Mills’ research focuses on social and political philosophy, Marxism, feminism, and critical race theory. He is the author or editor of six books, including The Racial Contract (Cornell UP, 1997), which won the 1997 Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Award. He has published over sixty scholarly articles in various venues, including journals such as Ethics and Canadian Journal of Philosophy and a variety of edited volumes, and many of his articles have been selected for reprinting in widely-used philosophy anthologies. Professor Mills was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2017. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1985.
