About The Speaker
Marya Schechtman is Professor of Philosophy and a member of the Laboratory of Integrated Neuroscience at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research focuses primarily on questions of personal identity and ethics. She is the author of The Constitution of Selves (Cornell University Press, 1996) and Staying Alive: Personal Identity, Practical Concerns, and the Unity of a Life (Oxford University Press, 2014). In addition to these, she has published numerous articles in many highly regarded venues, including Philosophical Psychology, Synthese, and Philosophical Studies. Professor Schechtman earned her Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1988.
