CEPA Seminar: Richard Velkley

Richard Velkley is Celia Scott Weatherhead Professor of Philosophy at Tulane University. Professor Velkley's primary research interests include phenomenology, political philosophy, and the history of European philosophy since Kant. He is the author of Freedom and the End of Reason: On the Moral Foundation of Kant's Critical Philosophy (University of Chicago Press, 1989), Being after Rousseau: Philosophy and Culture in Question (University of Chicago Press, 2002), and Heidegger, Strauss, and the Premises of Philosophy: On Original Forgetting (University of Chicago Press, 2011), and he has edited or co-edited five collections of essays, including, most recently, Leo Strauss on Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra (University of Chicago Press, 2017). Professor Velkley was elected as President of the Metaphysical Society of America for 2017-2018, and he has been awarded fellowships from the ACLS, NEH, Earhart Foundation, Bradley Foundation,and Templeton Foundation. He received his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in 1978.
