The Murphy Institute Seminar Series in Political Science

Each semester, The Murphy Institute proudly sponsors a dynamic series of seminars and workshops organized across key Tulane academic departments: Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy, and Law. These seminar series serve as a vital platform for faculty, visiting scholars, and researchers to present cutting-edge work on contemporary issues in political economy, public policy, ethics, and social values. The Murphy Seminar in Political Science, held in partnership with the Department of Political Science, covers all aspects of contemporary political science, including comparative politics, public policy, international relations, American politics, and normative theory. Papers are distributed beforehand to the participants who read the paper and prepare discussion questions for the presenter. 

Andrew Leber is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Middle East & North African (MENA) Studies program. His work examines public policymaking and media ecosystems under non-democracies, with a particular focus on the politics of the Middle East (or West Asia) and North Africa. In other work, he focuses on the drivers of foreign policymaking in the United States and U.S. security partners in the Middle East, especially the U.S.-Saudi relationship.

Leber's research has appeared in peer-reviewed outlets such as Politics & Society, Middle East Law & Governance, the International Journal of Communication, and the British Journal of Middle East Studies. Leber's commentary has also appeared in outlets such as Foreign Affairs, the Texas National Security Review, War on the Rocks, and The Washington Post.
