Carla L. Reyes joined the Michigan State University College of Law as an Assistant Professor of Law and Director of Legal RnD in 2018. She teaches Business Enterprises, Secured Transactions, Technology Transactions, and Artificial Intelligence & the Law. Recognized for her leadership in the issues raised by the intersection of blockchain technology and the law, Professor Reyes also currently serves as a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.
A former Fulbright Scholar, her current research focuses on the intersection of blockchain technology and the law, theorizing about the technology from a commercial and corporate law perspective. Her most recent article, "If Rockefeller Were a Coder" was selected as a winning paper in the 2018 Southeastern Association of Law Schools Call for Paper Competition, and Professor Reyes has published other recent work related to blockchain technology in the Nebraska Law Review ("Conceptualizing Cryptolaw"), and the William & Mary Law Review Online ("Distributed Governance" with Ben Edwards and Nizan Packin). Professor Reyes also actively contributes to blockchain technology initiatives at the United Nations Internet Governance Forum, the American Bar Association, and the Coalition of Automated Legal Applications (“COALA”).
