About the Speaker

David Sobel is the Irwin and Marjorie Guttag Professor of Ethics and Political Philosophy at Syracuse University. Professor Sobel’s main areas of research are in theories of value and reasons for action. He is the author of From Valuing to Value: A Defense of Subjectivism (Oxford UP 2017). He is a co-founding editor (with Peter Vallentyne and Steven Wall) of the Oxford Studies in Political Philosophy series, and he co-edited (with Steven Wall) Reasons for Action (Cambridge UP 2009). Professor Sobel received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1997.
