Biography
Eric Wiland is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Missouri, St. Louis, and a 2023 – 2024 Faculty Fellow at the Center for Ethics. Professor Wiland’s research primarily focuses on ethics and practical reason with several overlapping topics such as advice and moral testimony, reasons for action, objective and indirect moral theories, and, most recently, well-being.
Wiland’s first book Reasons was published by Continuum Press in 2012 and examines contemporary accounts of the reasons for which we act. His most recent book, Guided by Voices: Moral Testimony, Advice, and Forging a ‘We’ was published by Oxford University Press in 2021, and is the first book about moral testimony and the first academic philosophy book about advice. Wiland has published his work in top-rated journals, including Philosophy and Phenomenological Research, Philosophical Quarterly, and Analysis.
