ABSTRACT: Anger is the most destructive emotion. But we live in an orgy of anger in which anger is normalized. I discuss some of the cultural variation in norms for anger, the philosophical implications of this variation, and some implication of using cross-cultural resources for ethics.
Ann Cudd is Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Philosophy at Boston University. Professor Cudd’s philosophical interests include social and political philosophy, philosophy of economics, philosophy of social science, decision theory, and feminist theory. Her research has long focused on themes of oppression, economic inequality, and gender.
Justin D’Arms is Professor of Philosophy and Chair of the Philosophy Department at Ohio State University. Professor D’Arms’s philosophical interests include Moral Theory, Metaethics, Reasons and Rationality, Philosophy of Emotion, and Evolutionary Theory.
Michael Munger is Professor of Political Science with secondary appointments in the of Economics and Public Policy at Duke University. He is also Director of the PPE Certificate Program at Duke.
Rebecca Tuvel is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Rhodes College. Rebecca Tuvel is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Rhodes, College in Memphis, TN. She specializes in Feminist Philosophy, Philosophy of Race and Animal Ethics. She is currently writing a book on the ethics and metaphysics of transracialism. She earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy from Vanderbilt University in 2014.
Cristina Bicchieri is the S. J. Patterson Harvie Professor of Social Thought and Comparative Ethics and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania. She also holds appointments as Professor of Psychology and Professor of Legal Studies, in addition to being Head of the Penn Behavioral Ethics Lab. Professor Bicchieri’s research interests lie at the intersection of philosophy, game theory, and psychology.
