Tulane’s Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl Team is comprised of curious and engaged students who participate in scrimmages and contests to explore contemporary issues in practical and professional ethics. These activities prepare the team for the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl®’s regional competitions.

Competition Details

Ethics Bowl is an intercollegiate competition with regional events held nationwide during late fall and early winter. Teams engage in discussions about complex moral issues in real-world scenarios. They are judged on the presentation of their arguments, their engagement with the moral dimensions of the case, and their ability to have constructive dialogues with opposing teams. Through Ethics Bowl, students develop a deeper understanding of complex issues and hone skills associated with democratic deliberation.

Achievements

Tulane’s Ethics Bowl team was established in Fall 2023 and participated in their first regional competition that same year. Team members Hannah Johnson, Maria Cordero, and Derrik O’Neal competed against the University of Chicago, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Oklahoma – Christian at the San Antonio Texas Regional.

The Tulane team was commended for their professionalism, presentation of formal arguments, and engagement with other teams. Following their success in San Antonio, the team is growing in membership.
