The Murphy Institute will welcome Dan Gallagher as the featured speaker for the 2024 Mary C. Parker Yates Lecture on Wednesday, November 13, at 5:00 PM in the Myra Clare Rogers Memorial Chapel on Tulane’s Uptown Campus.
Dan Gallagher is the Chief Legal, Compliance and Corporate Affairs Officer of Robinhood Markets, Inc., the financial technology platform. Before joining Robinhood, Dan was Partner and Deputy Chair of the Securities Department at international law firm WilmerHale where he advised corporate boards and management on the full range of legal and strategic issues, and counseled financial services and accounting firms in investigations, regulatory proceedings and policy matters.
Dan has an extensive background in financial markets and regulatory matters, including serving as a Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from 2011 to 2015. He held several other positions on the SEC staff prior to being appointed commissioner, including deputy director and co-acting director of the division of trading and markets. Dan also previously served as the Chief Legal Officer at Mylan N.V., a leading global pharmaceutical company, and as the president of a financial services consulting firm.
Dan serves as a fellow for the Columbia Law School’s program in the Law and Economics of Capital Markets and is on the advisory boards for the Institute for Law and Economics at the University of Pennsylvania and the Center for Corporate Governance, part of the Raj & Kamla Gupta Governance Institute in Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business. Dan is also on the board of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and was formerly a non-executive director of the Irish Stock Exchange. He holds a J.D. from Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, and B.A. from Georgetown University.
The Mary C. Parker Yates Lecture, endowed in 1996 by Murphy Institute alumna Rebecca Yates (‘89) Velander in memory of her mother, is The Murphy Institute’s premier public academic event. Created to foster university-wide discussion on contemporary issues, the annual Yates Lecture brings leading thinkers and public figures to Tulane's campus and is Murphy’s premier public event. It is free and open to all members of the Tulane community and the general public.
